Whether sunbathing on the Costa del Sol, admiring the beautiful beaches of the Costa Blanca or immersing yourself in the vibrant Portuguese culture, with The Food Co. you'll never be far from your favourite brands.

• Our story begins in 1996, when Bryn Roberston brings to life the opening of the first retail store in Las Chafiras, Tenerife.

• In 1997, the company establishes its first working partnership with British food retailer Iceland Foods Plc. Garry Richardson is appointed Managing Director of the company.

• In 1998, the opening of the flagship shop in Las Chafiras, far exceeds initial expectations and sparks plans for further development and expansion of the brand.

• The opening of the second shop in Los Cristianos and the third in Las Américas in Tenerife in 1999.

• 2001 we become the only company able to import meat products to Tenerife and Gran Canaria thanks to a strong partnership with Iceland Foods. The flagship shop in Las Chafiras is transformed into a larger, cleaner and more modern shop.

• 2006 The Los Cristianos shop is refurbished and the product range is expanded to continue offering customers the best of British retailing. In addition, a commercial partnership is established with the Waitrose Group, allowing us to introduce more than 1,000 new product lines in the shops.

• 2007 The first shop on the Spanish mainland opens in Mijas, with new and interesting products and now also fresh produce. Subsequently, Benissa, Alicante, becomes home to the largest shop to date, marking the company's first steps on the Costa Blanca.

• 2008 The Mijas shop expands by 50% to meet growing customer demand.

• 2009 In the first half of this year, shops are opened in La Marina, San Javier and Jávea.

• 2010 A new shop opens in Benidorm and offices are acquired on the Costa Blanca, strengthening the company's logistics and purchasing operations in Spain.

• 2011 The company goes from strength to strength and opens shops in Puerto Banús and Vera, as well as expanding into Portugal for the first time with a shop in Albufeira.

• 2012 The UK consolidation warehouse is opened, handling any logistical issues in the UK.

• 2013 The buying office in the North of England is opened, allowing for a more diverse range of products. Keith Lewis and Richard Williams join the team as Commercial Director and Head of Merchandising. In addition, a fourth shop is opened in Torviscas, Tenerife.

• 2014 The Jávea, Torrevieja and San Fulgencio shops are refurbished to accommodate the shops' growing product ranges. At the same time, the UK warehouse begins processing chilled and frozen products.

• 2015 Expansion begins in Lanzarote with the opening of the Playa Honda shop.

• 2017 The company continues to grow and opens four more shops. Campo Verde, Calahonda and Playa Blanca, all in Spain and one in Portimao, Portugal.

• 2019 Continuing the expansion, a shop opens in Puerto de Mazarrón, Murcia.

• 2020 We adapted and made changes to keep staff and customers safe in the pandemic. But this did not stop us from continuing to expand, opening several shops throughout the year. Almancil, Gibraltar, Ciudad Quesada and Malaga.

• 2023 Expansion resumes after Brexit. This time it is Guadalmina and Sotogrande where we locate our shops. In addition, the central warehouse in Benissa is expanded to be able to supply all the shops. A Second Warehouse is Opened in Benissa to Supply stores

• 2024 The Company has spent a lot of time sourcing new products and adapting systems to continue importing products from the Uk. We continue to find new solutions to problems raised by Brexit.

• 2025 A New On line shopping site is being launched offering fast delivery over Spain and Portugal with Dry Goods to begin with
